Revlog: Xacti HD1000 Green MP4 Fix by Ryanne Hodson

Once again, Ryanne Hodson of RyanIsHungry comes to vloggers’ rescue. People who own the Xacti HD1000 camera have noted they can’t play back their footage after updating QuickTime software. Ryanne documents how to replace the H.264 codec in QuickTime so you can use your footage once again if you own one of these bad boys. Thank Ryanne by commenting on her post rather than here. Also she’s got links to more solutions documented in Apple’s QuickTime support forums.

Training Resources List

Yesterday, Caleb Clark posted the beginnings of a list of videoblogger training resources to the Yahoo! Videoblogging Group and requested that people add to his list. I’m going to attempt to cull all those links and list them here, updating this post as more people add links. This won’t be an end-all place to look for resources, but at least it will be a good start, and hopefully quicker to find than searching the Yahoo! group. Eventually I’ll review all the links and add a summary of what you’ll find at each one. Here are the links:

Turn That Clip

Ok, this is cool, and I wish I’d known about it during my Videoblogging Class last semester. I just found out about Turn Clip, a free iMovie plugin that can rotate a video clip 90, 180 or 270 degrees. Why is this cool? Because a lot of novice video bloggers are using their digital cameras to shoot video. We’re used to turning the camera 90 degrees to get a portrait shot. But when you do that with video, what you get is a sideways video clip. With Turn Clip and iMovie, you can now rotate the clip to the proper orientation. The plugin has other nice features as well: setting a background color, cropping the clip, an opacity setting, and more. And it’s free. That rocks!

One caveat seems to be that iMovie may distort the clip a bit with its internal codecs, but there’s a fix for that, too – the Aspect Ratio plugin. Also free.

Heck, looks like we should all just thoroughly explore iMoviePlugins.com – it looks like it’s full of great stuff.
