Deb Gessner of D-Squared emailed to ask about embedding YouTube videos on her blog. One innocent little question made me realize there was actually a lot to explain. So I took some time for a screencast, because while this stuff may seem obvious to people who have been videoblogging since 2004, we need to realize it’s not obvious to everyone. Not yet. Long live Media Literacy.

Once you’ve mastered the simple embedding covered in this video, YouTube has a YouTube on Your Site page that explains advanced embedding topics, like putting video into an eBay auction, displaying multiple videos in a single embed, and adding playlists to your blog!

Once again, Ryanne Hodson of RyanIsHungry comes to vloggers’ rescue. People who own the Xacti HD1000 camera have noted they can’t play back their footage after updating QuickTime software. Ryanne documents how to replace the H.264 codec in QuickTime so you can use your footage once again if you own one of these bad boys. Thank Ryanne by commenting on her post rather than here. Also she’s got links to more solutions documented in Apple’s QuickTime support forums.

So Bekah, that’s MissBHavens to you, needed a graphic for her new blog, and she wanted a cartoon video camera with herself in the viewer. I offered to take a picture she sent me and put it “into” the viewer, using one of my favorite magic wands, Photoshop. She asked, “How do you DO that!?” So I recorded myself doing it, so she could see. This one’s for you, Miss B. And for anyone else who wants to know how to do it.

This video is a 640×480 screencast tutorial showing you how to use vPIP to publish multiple versions of a video into your Blogger site, offering your viewers a choice of video formats hosted on Blip.tv.

I made it in response to demand from my videoblogging students, who had trouble writing notes from my live demo. The tutorial assumes you already know how to set up a blog with Blogger, compress video for the web, and upload it to Blip.tv’s hosting service. A Windows Media version of this screencast is coming soon. Apologies, but right now the Flash version does something a little funky – you get a controller in the middle of the video. vPIP is being updated to accommodate larger video sizes, but right now it generates a wee little Flash player. I’ll update it when the new vPIP code is released.
